2012 Champions for Impact Awards

Learn moreUnited Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania is pleased to honor Manus McHugh, Manager of Retail Business Integration for Exelon Energy, with the 2012 United Way Volunteer of the Year award. The Volunteer of the Year award is given in recognition of longstanding leadership, generosity, creativity and passion for helping to strengthen communities and improve lives through United Way.

McHugh, a member of United Way's Board of Directors and chair of the organization's Community Impact Strategy Committee, will be presented with the award on June 13 at the 2012 Champions for Impact celebration. The event will take place at the Ballroom at the Ben in Philadelphia from 5 PM to 7 PM. Champions for Impact is United Way's signature event recognizing the contributions of local donors, advocates and volunteers whose dedication helps to improve education for our children and youth, create opportunities for families to achieve financial stability, and allow seniors to age with dignity in their own homes and communities.

"Manus constantly challenges United Way to be a leader in thought and action throughout our region because he truly believes in the work that we do," says Jill Michal, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. "He has taken the Community Impact Strategy Committee to the next level, and constantly brings out the best in everyone by inspiring and motivating each committee and board member."

McHugh has been an important part of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania during a critical time in the organization's history. In 2009, as United Way implemented a new funding strategy for the first time in seventy-five years, he was a driving force behind this crucial process as the organization evolved and began driving real impact in education, income and health throughout the region.

Rosemary Turner, president of UPS' Chesapeake District and chair of United Way's Board of Directors, said McHugh is truly deserving of the award.

"Manus' commitment to United Way has given us an opportunity to have a tremendous impact, allowing us to carry out our work in a more effective and efficient manner," said Rosemary Turner, "Manus is a compassionate leader whose work is ensuring the sustainability of nonprofits throughout our region."

McHugh is proud that his work with United Way is making an impact in communities throughout the region and is humbled to be recognized from among the large number of dedicated and passionate volunteers, "My experience of volunteering with United Way has been immensely rewarding," McHugh said. "The commitment of the staff and volunteers to make real and lasting change in our community is inspiring and to work alongside them is a privilege."

McHugh has held a variety of leadership positions at Exelon and PECO over the past 13 years. Currently, he leads business integration and capital programs at Exelon Energy, the retail arm of Exelon's commercial and power trading operations. He is responsible for system development and enhancements, project management, and coordinating business process improvements across the enterprise.

McHugh and his wife Joanne live with their three daughters in Harleysville, PA.
