7AllowingolderadultstoagewithdignityintheirownhomesandcommunitiesPennsylvaniahasalargepercentageofseniorsx14the3rdhighestinthenation.Inourregionnearlyoneoutof10seniorsisconsideredlowincomeorhasanincomebelowtheFederalPovertyLevel.IntheCityofPhiladelphiathatx1dgureisoneinx1dve.Andfartoomanyofourolderadultsarewithouttheresourcestheyneedtoremainintheirhomeswheretheyoftenprefertobe.Wex19veledcollaborativeeffortstoensurethatseniorsandtheircaretakersareawareofandhaveaccesstoresourcessuchashomeandcommunity-basedhealthcarenutritionservicesandsocialopportunitiesathigh-qualityseniorcenters.Asaresult22000homeboundolderadultsreceivedin-homephysicalhealthservices.3500olderadultsreceivednutritiousmealsandanother14000receivedtimelyreferralsforavarietyofhealthyagingservices.WealsoadvocatedforlegislationthatwouldgiveadditionalneededsupportstocaregiversinPennsylvaniaprovidingbenex1dtsandservicessuchasx1dnancialsupportcounselingservicesandtrainingprogramsforthosewhoaregivingcaretoanotherindividual.ThelegislationwassuccessfullypassedandsignedintolawinadditionweforgedaninnovativepartnershipwiththeCommonwealthofPennsylvaniatopilotmodelsofcommunity-basedcareforolderadults.ThroughUnitedWayx19sCommunityImpactFundSurreywasabletoprovideseniorswithservicesthatallowedthemtoconvenientlyremainintheirownhomes.Weprovidedmealsridestodoctorox10fcesx10oodstorespharmaciesandseniorcentersx10orsocializationaswellasvolunteeropportunitiesgivingthemaccesstomeaningx10ulworkthatpositivelyimpactedthelivesox10others.x1dBarbaraFentressPresidentExecutiveDirectorSurreyServicesforSeniorshealthforseniors
